Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A deadly accident occurred on the Second Hooghly Bridge late Friday night, claiming the life of a truck driver and leaving three others seriously injured. The accident took place at around 11:30 PM when a lorry, traveling at high speed, broke through the divider and collided head-on with another lorry coming from the opposite direction. The front of the first lorry was severely damaged in the impact, killing its driver on the spot.
Following the initial collision, three more vehicles crashed into the wreckage, further worsening the situation. The police and local residents quickly arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. The injured were rushed to SSKM Hospital for emergency treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the first lorry, loaded with cement, was headed toward Kolkata when it swerved into the opposite lane, leading to the fatal collision. The accident caused significant damage to all involved vehicles, and traffic on the Second Hooghly Bridge was disrupted for over an hour as authorities worked to clear the scene. The lane from Howrah to Kolkata remained closed during this period, causing further inconvenience to commuters.
